Glen Brice, Genetic Counsellor

Glen Brice is the lead genetic counsellor at Southwest Thames Regional Genetics Service, based at St George’s Hospital, London. He has had a longstanding interest in both Lymphoedema and Lipoedema and is part of the research team responsible for finding the genes which cause primary Lymphoedema and looking into the underlying genetic causes for Lipoedema, which could lead to more specific treatments.

Dr Dirk Pilat FRCGP, PgDipGP, (Otago)

Dr Dirk Pilat is a General Practitioner and partner at the Bromley by Bow Health Partnership in the East End of London. He is also the Medical Director for e-learning at the Royal College of General Practitioners and author of the RCGP’s elearning course on Lipoedema. He worked as a GP in Scotland and New Zealand before settling in Tower Hamlets.


Dr Sarah Pledger qualified from King’s College London in 1987. She has been a practising GP in West Sussex for 22 years, also holding senior roles specialising in Women’s Health and Fertility. She is a Fellow of the Faculty of Reproductive Health (RCOG) and is the Clinical Lead for Gynaecology (and also for Unscheduled and Urgent Care) for Coastal West Sussex CCG, involved in the commissioning and re-organisation of services. She was one of the contributor GPs to the RCGP elearning course on Lipoedema.

Miss Anne Dancey (MBChB (Hons), FRCS(Plast), MMedSci(Hons)

Miss Anne  Dancey is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon in the private sector in the Midlands.  She is a council member of the British Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (BAPRAS) and also the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) regional speciality advisor for Plastic Surgery. She is a member of the British Standards Institute, responsible for improving European and national safety standards in non-surgical treatment.  Miss Dancey studied medicine at Glasgow University and completed her surgical training in the West Midlands. Miss Dancey is trained in all areas of aesthetic and reconstructive Plastic Surgery. Her specialist interest lies in aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery, lymphoedema surgery and body contouring.   Miss Dancey performs tumescent liposuction on all stages of lipoedema and is collating patient data for publication.

 Mr Vasu Karri, BSc (Hons), MBBS, MRCS, MSc, FRCS(Plast)

Mr Vasu Karri is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon in full time private practice in East Yorkshire. He is on the General Medical Council (GMC) specialist register for plastic surgery, certified by the Royal College of Surgeons of England,  and a member of British Association of Plastic Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS).  Mr Karri obtained his medical degree from St Mary’s Hospital Medical School, London and completed his plastic surgery training in London.  Mr Karri has a specialist interest in lipoedema surgery and performs both water-assisted liposuction (WAL) and tumescent liposuction. He is also active with lipoedema research and currently investigating the physical and psychological benefit of his lipoedema surgery.

Mr Alex Munnoch, FRCS Ed(Plast)

Mr Alex Munnoch is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Clinical Lead at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee and a leading international expert on Lymphoedema and more recently Lipoedema. He carries out liposuction on the NHS related to both conditions. He is also Patron of Talk Lipoedema, a member of the Lymphoedema Support Network’s (LSN) Medical Advisory Team and a former Chair of the British Lymphology Society (BLS).  Mr Munnoch presents extensively on his research, including Quality of Life for lymphoedema patients.
